Houston Community College HITECH Certificate Information

Houston Community College (HCC) – Coleman College for Health Sciences received a $1 million HITECH grant to train the following six (6) Health IT roles to experienced Health Care and IT professionals. The curriculum at HCC consist of 10 CE courses delivered in a distance education web-based platform. It must be completed within six (6) month for the student to receive 100% tuition assistance. HCC is currently working with the University of Texas Health Science Center which received the Regional Extension Center grant and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division. HCC is also joined in the grant by two other Texas schools which are Midland Community College and Dallas Community College District. To qualify for admission to this advanced certificate program, students must have health care or IT education and experience. They are trained in one of the following six areas:· Practice workflow and information management redesign specialist· Clinician/practitioner Consultant· Implementation Support Specialist· Implementation Manager· Technical/Software Support Staff· TrainerWe recently graduated 55 students with backgrounds ranging from software engineers, nurses and health information professionals.
